Michele Gamberini graduated in Electronic Engineering at University La Sapienza in Rome and attended the post-university specialization school in Telecommunications at the Istituto Superiore Poste e Telecomunicazioni in Rome.
Michele Gamberini has more than 30 years of experience in Telco Operators, where he has covered a lot of responsibility roles in the technology area. After a 1-year job experience in Telesoft he joined Omnitel, the second mobile operator in Italy, where he worked as Cell Planning Coordinator from the start-up to September 1996, when he joined TIM. He was responsible initially for the Radio Planning Department and then for the whole Radio Direction in AMENA, the third Spanish mobile operator from 1998 to 2002. He served as Chief Network Officer in Tim Hellas Greece from 2002 to 2005. From 2005 to 2009 he worked as senior director of Telecom Italia NOA (Network Operation Area), being responsible for deployment and maintenance of both mobile and fixed network in centre and South Italy. From 2009 to 2011 he was Head of Network Operation Governance. From 2011 to 2018 he served as senior executive director, leading the engineering and the innovation of mobile and fixed network. In 2019 he was appointed as CTIO in Telecom Italia, playing also the role of Global CTIO for all the subsidaries. From January 2022 to August 2023 he has been CTIO for MTN South Africa. From September 2023 to August 2024 he has been Chief Innovation Officer in Windtre Italy. Since October 2024 Michele has been serving as CEO of Smart City Roma SpA, responsible for deploying, managing and maintaining a neutral host infrastructure aimed to provide 4G and 5G coverage within all Rome Subway lines and to deliver WiFi, Video
Survellance and IoT services to Rome Metropolitan Area.
During his career Michele has been appointed member of the Board of Noovle SpA, OpenRAN Alliance, Supersonic South Africa and Smart City Roma SpA.
